Our friend and forum member Chickenbone John has organized a workshop in Worcester with Catfish Keith on this Sunday 12th October. This is a great opportunity to spend an afternoon with the string twanger himself! Keith is a great musician and always a pleasure to spend time with. The workshop is sponsored by National Reso-Phonic Guitars. For more information about this event please contact John on 0121-429-9996 - mobile: 07957-255-846 wormald.design@virgin.net £30.00 admission (includes evening show) That's a great deal! Can't make it to Worcester (which my US mate still insists on calling 'war-sester') but CK will be legging it over to Leeds the next day to entertain the good folk of Yorkshire at the New Roscoe in Leeds (doors open 8 pm). I myself will grace the event with my august presence... ;D

Hi guys...not many takers for this workshop so far, so if you are thinking about it please let me know ASAP....if there aren't enough to make it viable I'll have to cancel it, I really don't want to do that!!...it's hard work arranging this sort of thing at relatively short notice....so if you can, do come along and let me know.
It's well worth it..I know, I've heard all the excuses....."Oh it's too pricey for an afternoon...it's too far to come..." ...etc etc but folk seem to be happy to spend their money on new guitars and slides and strings and stuff...I've put myself out to arrange this, and only hope some people will support the event. I didn't want to abuse the priveledge of posting on this forum, so I'd only put the word out locally, but MM has been kind enough to post a thread on this..many thanks for that, I reckon he understands how much effort goes into trying to get this sort of event to happen.
By the way, I'm doing the support for Catfish's gig on the same day too, accompanied by the amazing Dave Smith on harp and Ken Stratford on doghouse bass....if you think you've heard some good harp players but haven't seen Mr Smith, you ain't heard nuthin'!.

Sorry guys,..but I've had to cancel this workshop...I needed another 3 or 4 to make it viable..but no go. This workshop was arranged with Catfish Keith pretty late on, but I still thought we might have enough attendees..ah well c'est la vie....I'll try not to get too hacked off about it. Still, it promises to be a great gig, so do come and see us and Catfish if you can.

Chickenbone John ..... What a shame you could not get your numbers for your workshop with Catfish Keith, it was probably because of the short notice . I think of all the professional Reso players on the circuit he is probably my favourite one, I just love his dynamic style of playing, my favorite record in the car at the moment is his " If I could holler " . If I was in the UK I would certainly have considered going to your work shop

Yes, both me and Mr Cafish had shoehorned this into his schedule very late (just the day before he went to press with his publicity). We both felt it was worth trying, and he was very gracious about me having to cancel it. We enjoyed the gig tho', and were pleased have opened for him. Anyhow, I thoroughly recommend his gigs and workshops if he's doing one near you...mind you, I was interested to see 2 or 3 people buying his tab books...and wondering why they hadn't decided to do the workshop...ah well, sometimes it's best not to dwell on these things. He also had some notable players in the audience, including Perry Foster and Gywn Ashton.

Hope you enjoy the workshop...I can guarantee it will be money well spent.
It's a shame I had to cancel the Worcester workshop, but it does point out that players need to take an active interest in this sort of thing when it's on offer to make sure it happens. I've got to say, they are lots of players who misguidedly spend hundreds (or thousands) of pounds on their guitars, slides, strings pickups and stuff, and yet won't invest in a few hours of badly needed tuition. I know there are a lot of 'bedroom players' out there, but I think most people would like to play better and expand their repertoire, and a workshop is just about the easiest, quickest and best value way of doing it.
Send my regards to Catfish when you see him.

I am looking forward to it. I agree that there is no better investment than meeting up with other players in workshops or even informal jam sessions. BTW - Many Thanks to Phil who turned up last night at the Cricketers for the Acoustic Jam! Phil brought along 2 beautiful resos....a '94 NRP Style O and GORGEOUS Tricone from Fine Resophonic guitars. He also gave me one of his CDs! Wow! Phil - it sounds great. Thanks ;D

Well It wasn't a workshop, but I had a great night watching Catfish at the Ironworks, Oswestry last night. Excellent in all respects, fantastic player, awesome string dynamics and a great voice. Totally good musical night out. Signed CD in the rack and some more inspiration and motivation. Just perfect.

Saw Catfish Keith in Wimborne, Dorset on Thursday. He was superb. Love that baritone tricone! Unfortunately there wasn't a workshop organised along with this gig or I would have been there! From reading this thread it looks like it's not only Dorset blues players who hide themselves away and don't take advantage of what's on offer. I agree with other forum members that it's a great way to learn and develop your playing. These guys are so generous in imparting their skills and knowledge, which they've spent years practising and acquiring, and it's a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them in a small group.
