anyone know where I can get a heavy, plated metal slide- brass or whatever- maybe tapered inside to fit ones finger, but not necessarily? My fave slide's got a bit scratchy. Help!

Hi Guitwill, Now you have your own thread about slides! Actually - if you are looking for a heavy brass or steel slide you should contact Ron at www.frets.co.uk and ask if he has any KING SLIDES and what size they are. They are excellent slides that were designed by me & Ron for the now defunked LRC. I believe there may be a few left. Shine On Michael

Hi Guitwill, Have a look at diamond bottlenecks Evolution slide - www.diamondbottlenecks.com/DB08/index.asp?n=16 - while they mainly do glass slides, I have just got slide which is mostly heavy metal, but with a bit of lead crystal glass bonded into it. I am happy with the slide, they cut it to the length I wanted and seems like you do get the best of both. Not the lowest cost option but a good quality piece of kit. regards Mel

I was looking for one myself recently, just bought a Dunlop 228. It was the only heavy metal slide actually available and that I could find out the size before buying. It is a chrome brass slide, 19 mm ID, 51 mm long, 4 mm wall thickness (weighs about 4 oz). I bought it from strings direct - www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories/slides_and_capos/jim_dunlopConsidering its a pretty robust piece of metal, they packaged it incredibly well! Bill Addendum: I see the Dunlop 224 is also a heavy brass slide but a bit larger than the 228 and not chromed. Also, neither of these are tapered.

The slide your using on the DVD Michael.
Is that a similar spec to the Heavy you designed for LRC. I realise yours is Stainless, are the LRC chrome steel.
Thanks

The slide I am using in the DVD lesson is the same dimensions and weight as the LRC KING SLIDE. It was made for me 18 years ago by Alan Timmins. It is a stainless steel rod that was bored out, then it was polished and 'hard' chrome plated. Hard chrome plating is different to regular plating, it is as it says....very hard. I have used it every day for 18 years and it still like new, almost unmarked.
The King Slides were designed by Ron & me to be as close as possible to my one. They are stainless and they are lovely. I have a couple put aside in case I ever lose my handmade one. They were originally going to be MM products, but the cost of production was out of my reach at the time. They were very expensive to produce. They too were bored out of solid steel.
