Hello Michael,
At last! I couple of weeks ago I received new cones for my Amistar Tricone. Damm, it took a real long time!
I replaced the cones and stringed the guitar with some heavy gauge strings (adviced by Bob Brozman). I used a .015 string for the e string. It was a real problem to get a complete set of strings for my guitar. Could only find a medium set (.013). Bought some strings in one guitar shop and the others in another shop ;D
Guitar sounds great with these strings. I am still very carefull playing in different tunings (E, D ang G) because I am affraid that the cones will collapse again.
Do you know where I can find some nice tab's for blues songs in these tunings?

Hi SpoedNick,
Good news about the Amistar. I am sure it sounds great with the new cones! Bob was correct in advising you to use heavier strings, they definitely work better. Have you checked out the 'Michael Messer Strings for National Guitars' (hand made by Newtone Strings)? Go to the Strings page on my website, all the info is there. You can order them direct from Newtone, or from various outlets....The London Resonator Centre...for example.
RE: Tunings - with your Tricone you are fine going between D (DADF#AD) and G (DGDGBD), but I do not recommend tuning a Tricone with 15 17 26 36 46 56 up to E tuning (EBEG#BE). Just stay in the D & G tunings, then the tension doesn't change that much.
I don't know about TAB books, perhaps some other forum members can help?
Shine On, MIchael

Hi Michael, I've heard that the Newtone strings have a round core and they are easier on the neck. Is this true? Which set do you advise me for my Amistar? I can buy Newtone strings at PalmGuitars in Amsterdam. Hi SpoedNick, Good news about the Amistar. I am sure it sounds great with the new cones! Hi SpoedNick,
Yes it's true!!!!!
I would advise you to get light gauge (15 to 56) Phosphor Bronze in the red packet. See the page on my website about them.
Shine On, Michael.

Hi guys,
I use 16 to 59 Messer strings on my square-neck Tricones, and 15 to 56 on the round necks. It really is a matter of personal taste. For many years I used 16 to 59 on my round-neck Tricones, but eventually changed to the lighter gauge.
Because SpoedNick's guitar is an Amistar, not a National, National Reso-Phonic, Fine Resophonic or Beltona, I am recommending 15 to 56 as I am unsure of the stability of this guitar. I am not saying it is unstable, or that an Amistar is not as good as the names mentioned above, I am just being cautious about my advice because I have not seen SpoedNick's guitar. I have never tried a set of 16 to 59s on an Amistar Tricone, so I am not going to recommend something that I have not tried.
Shine On Michael.
