Can anyone help me ? I have just bought a Style one cutaway from Frailers & I am looking for a decent pickup for it. I have already knocked myself out buying the S1 so don't want to instigate divorce proceedings by spending another big lump of cash. That said, I don't want rubbish. Though it is not particularly important I would like is a pick-up that can clip on & off rather than be permanently fixed. Has anyone ideas, both my other resos have fixed bullet shape pick-ups which would be unsuitable ? Thanks Mike

The best reasonably priced pickup for a Tricone is the Schatten Tricone Pickup. It clips on the T bridge. So you have to open the guitar to fit it, but it is a good pickup and does not damage anything.

Cheers for that. I had been looking at these but they seemed too good to be true. Mike

The Schatten Tricone pickup actually sounds very good and as far as EQ-ing and getting a good sound quickly, they are excellent. Nothing beats a Shure SM57 microphone, but the Shatten is excellent.

I use a SM58, I was wondering if anyone has used or knows of the H-clamp from exploraudio, the device clamps to the guitar body and holds a mic close to the strings. I dont know any price or if their actually practical, but it sound like a good solution to micing up on stage. Cheers Lee

Hi Lee,
If you fix the mic to the guitar like that, either an SM57 or 58, it would be both heavy and a bit pointless. I like a microphone because I can control my volume and tone by moving the guitar around in front of the mic. If it was fixed that would not be possible. If those points don't worry you, try fixing it on the guitar. If you want to fix a mic on the guitar like you describe, try a small tie-clip mic of some sort. The results can be very impressive.

The lace Dobro pick-up is applied at the bridge with double-sided adhesive tape - sounds naff, but works. The jack needs a hole to be drilled into the body for insertion.
If you cannot bear to do that, your existing Fhole might be wide enough, if not you can drill it out a touch. For tound holes, you can easily fix them in.
Slidin' Steve put me onto these, and I've had three of them, one spare. He'll give you all the techie stuff ; but you can get them from USA on Ebay around £50 post included.
