Slide Playing Across Various Genres.

What are the distinctive characteristics of slide guitar playing in music genres other than blues? How does slide guitar technique vary across genres such as rock, country, folk, and world music

I thought there would be loads of replies on this topic......
George Harrison springs to mind ( things like ‘My Sweet Lord’ with its great slide solo/riff ending in a diminished run) Harrison did not tend to play blue scales so mostly major ( ans sometimes Indian influenced) scales
Derek Trucks, though blues based, goes all over the place using jazz and Indian music to great effect.
And of coarse Ry Cooder who played several styles on slide ( and lap steel sometimes) not just blues
Even Jimi Hendrix used slide on occasion ( done for effect on ‘All along the Watchtowers)

Jeff Beck used a slide to great effect on non blues songs. Dave Gilmour also comes to mind - especially pre Dark Side of the Moon. Which also reminds me of Daevid Allen, who developed what he called glissando guitar with Gong after seeing Syd Barrett.

Not forgetting Brian Jones who founded the Rolling Stones. Unfortunately left us at the age of 27 like a few others.

This thread got me thinking and messing around - I've sorted out slide arrangements for 'I'm Your Puppet' having watched Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham on Jools show and then this morphed to 'Just My Imagination' by The Temptations.
More to come, methinks.
I think there's a lot of old soul music that can be played with slide.
Not suprising really, considering soul developed from blues.

Patchy history of the Eagles, can’t harm Don Felders slide work, I didn’t notice so much at the time and don’t generally revisit but sometimes hear something from the Hotel album, the tone and phrasing is outstanding
