It’s about time I bought myself another slide. So I go to my favourite maker, Ian McWee at Diamond Bottlenecks and have a browse. So question - who uses the closed end bullet shaped slides? Do they impart any benefit over the standard open style? And do they allow for any differences in technique? Thanks, Mrs T

Do they have any benefits? For standard slide playing, probably not. I have 2 slides that I usually use, an old brass one and one of Ian’s in blue glass. Both are ‘bullet’ style. I do play a little lap steel and use the same slide for this and standard slide so the bullet end is best . I am now very at home with this type and am too old to change. As is often said about slide playing ‘ there are no rules’ if it feels right to you then that’s the one to use. Pete

I have a few from Ian, an older brass one also, I use what is close to hand, chopping and changing does not hamper too much, I do prefer the domed ones from a personal aesthetic.

If you want to use it as a lap slide too, then maybe, but if not then don't bother. For me it would hamper my playing.
I always say about all this stuff, don't use new fangled gimmicky tools, just stick to the tried and tested basic and original designs.
