I really liked the sound of my old NRP tricone with the John Pearse strings, so tried them on my MM Blues. Unfortunately the sound is not as good as with Newtones or Elixir. Do others like the John Pearse strings?

I tried them once, nothing special. And 3rd string broke very quickly But... I've learned that 1) there is no such thing as the best strings for any guitar 2) it's about personal preferences. After trying many strings on my single cone resonator I'm sticking with Martin Monel, but when I put them on wood body MM prototype, it sounded worse than phosphor bronze strings. I had comparable observations with other guitars, acoustic and electric.

First of all I have to tell I've got an endorsement with Pearse strings, but I was using those strings long before that. I like them and use them. In my NRP tricone I use a heavy set (.16 .59 bronze) but in a wooden reso I like a nickel set with a .13 set but with an .15 as a first. In my guitars they sound good. Frank

I think putting a 15 as a 1st string would improve the sound on the MM Blues too. I had already ordered one to use with a new set of elixirs, but I think I'll put it with the JP.

I was using .13 on top, my previous resonator guitar was very trebly and top strings were loud as hell anyway. My brass Leewald is a little bass heavy and lately I decided to try .15 - nice improvement in tone and slide playability. I'm thinking about trying heavier 2nd string - .17 is ok in open G, but in open D (2nd tuned down to A), a little more tension would be nice for sliding.
By the way, I never tried MM Newton strings, are they available anywhere in EU? Or only in UK?

Hi Tom
15 17 26w 36 46 56 should be fine in both D and G tunings. I have fitted and used thousands of them.
Newtone - send an email to Neil and he will mail some to you.
