Just acquired a Gretsch semi. No bigsby but it was too much of a bargain to miss. Been looking at buying one but they cost an arm and a leg. Anybody ever used one of the bigsby clone systems? There’s a few around for between £25-£60 but always cautious about these things.

I do have an original Bigsby mounted on my archtop; it works well and, even 15 years ago, it was expensive. But on an another archtop I had a "chinese bigsby copy" and it worked even better! I sold that guitar long ago, but I still remember that chinese copy. I think that if a copy doesn't cost much you should give it a try! Only thing is that with an original Bigsby...if you don't like it, it would be very easy to sell. Frank

I have a 'chinese copy short bigsby alike' mounted on my Epiphone Wilshire solid guitar and it works well with no tuning issues after fitting roller saddles to the bridge. 57 years ago I had a Hofner Verithin with a pukkah Bigsby - and that too worked well once the Bigsby bridge was set up properly. I think the secret with these things is the bridge and nut is set up to ensure that there is no snagging or friction. Let's be pragmatic - if the design, dimensions, material and assembly is right does it matter what logo is on these things? ...ducks and runs for cover...

It was rubbish. I traded a Yairi part ex for it and almost instantly regretted it and it took me three years to find the same model. No comparison in terms of workmanship and quality. Since the original post I’ve seen Wilkinson bigsby style trems but they are nearly as expensive. Plenty of well made looking clones about and very good shout on the roller bridge. That seems a no brainer. The nut feels like it’s made of polystyrene- not sure if it’s that tusq stuff but I’ll try lubing it until I can get a bone nut fitted. Edit - guessing a roller bridge will be helpful for tuning in general even without the trem system?
