Hello all, Just a simple, Sunday morn question for any chaps or gals out there who can anecdotally give me advice. I've got a couple of guitars in the cross hairs, and these two are Republic, and Regal. Without bashing either company, anyone got an angle on pros/cons, or are they much of a muchness? I did have a Republic a long time ago, but don't recall a great deal about it. I know an MM would be preferable, but I'm looking locally because I'd like to pick it up in person. Both guitars are twelve fretters, similar age (so not the old Regal)... Thoughts? Happy Sunday!
IT'S BLOODY MONDAY, I'M CONFUSED BECAUSE IT'S HALF TERM 😳

If I can tell something valuable, take care of the type of resonator inside a Regal; it seems you can see two different types of cones. It's easy to understand how a heavier and thicker cone may have some limits in his capacities. The short radial lines in the external lip may help to identify a thick cone. (here you can see what I'm talking about":https://www.folkmusician.com/products/resonator-cone-9-1-2-inch-with-biscuit-bridge )
A more interesting cone don't have these lines, lighter and thinner, with defenitively more bass. (But some like the radial lines type of cones, it depends of your taste, so a test in hand is the best option).

Hi Archie. I have a Regal spider bridge that I'm happy with, but I think you're more interested in a biscuit bridge judging by your reference to MM guitars. I have 3 metal bodied single cone Republics and 2 wood bodied and can't say anything bad about them. In fact the highway 61 is the loudest dirtiest sounding reso I own if that floats yer boat! MM guitars are generally acknowledged as the top of the tree in or anywhere near their price range plus you get a top setup and excellent after sales help if needed. If you can't go for an MM right now and you can get a Republic that's well setup and a good deal you shouldn't be disappointed. Let us know how you get on. 👍🎸 Best wishes to you all, John

I have 2 Republics, the metal body travel size Highway and a parlor size wood Minolian. The problem for me on both of these are because of the smaller size I need to go up a half step for slide. The larger Highway model has a good reutation - Keb Mo has or had one, but other than that I don't see too many performers with.
If you are looking at a spiderbridge and a biscuit bridge they are different types, so you might consider watching a few youtube videos and see if either sound like something that would work for what you want to play.
Best, Harriet

I had Republic parlor for a while, it was ok. Yes, Keb Mo has or had one, Taj Mahal has a Regal tricone.
