Hi All, Does anyone know of any issues with fitting a strap button to the treble side of the neck heel which might clash with the screw? I believe the neck is one piece of mahogany and has a neck stick. Thanks in advance Chris

Hi Chris. I have a strap button on the back of the heel of a resonator ukulele that was there when I got it. Seems fine although a bit useless as there isn't a corresponding button on the bout. I tried a dedicated ukulele strap on the one button but it just got in the way so now I don't bother.

Ps. I noticed that some straps utilise the sound hole for support, but this can't be done with a reso. So I'm also up for any suggestions please. Hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread Chris.

Hi Bonzo, Thanks, what make is your Uke? It may already have a block behind where you need to drill for a button in the bout(or you could install one?) Cheers Chris

Chris,
Is there a screw?
General information about fitting a strap button...
Be careful not to split the heel. Strap buttons on any stringed instrument should never go into the end of a heel, they should go into the side. I know lots are put into the end, but it is not recommended. My advice would be to put the strap around the headstock and not risk it.
If you do decide to risk it - the correct size drill bit for most strap buttons is 2.5mm. Mark the drill bit with white paint or tape so you don't go deeper than necessary and rub beeswax into the screw thread before screwing it into the hole.
I hope that is helpful.

Hi Chris, it's a Republic concert. I think I'm going to go with MM on this one and leave well enough alone!
