Here I am! Aluminium? There were some fiddle edge Dobros made in aluminium, they don’t sound great ( I seem to recall, not that I have ever seen or heard one) This would be a fun project, I don’t think I’ll bid ( unless nobody on the forum is interested, I guess I might put £50 on it) . Pity the F holes are so odd and the body so thick, might make a good plant pot? Pete
Also can’t see any dimensions, it could be built to take a 7 3/4” cone?

wonder if a wooden "tone ring" as found in early fender bassman speaker cabs wouldn't improve tone and also shim to differing cone diameters and height requirements.

some years ago, i watched a Utube video made about a college student who submitted a guitar along with a thesis paper to earn a degree of some sort. [don't recall]
the guitar was a full length aluminum neck with bridge attached and curved sections that would be the rounded sections fitting under the arm and resting on the leg when sitting down to play. [basic appearance of a drawn cross bow]
at the end of them, each of those extensions had a circular flat surface threaded to accept close ended machined wooden tubes being attached with machine screws.
there were some different lengths of tubes made from differing trees. they were exchanged to change the tone of the acoustic guitar.
the various tube changes sounded dramatically different.
biggest mistake was not saving address of that upload. have looked using many search terms for it with no luck. has anyone else seen that video also?

The tone of those aluminium “Dobrolite” fiddle edge Dobros is really sweet, they just lack volume. They also dent easily.

I guess we shouldn’t form a ‘cartel’ and not bid against each other on the forum, the seller might be hard-up and need the cash. I will put in a bid sometime soon ( but not a very big one ) so if someone else on the forum really wants it they won’t have much more to pay than I thought it worth. (Though there may be someone else out there who really wants it)
We shall see. Pete
I guess someone could message the sell and ask about the well size, it may be so odd that no cone would fit it.
I may try that before I bid Pete

Worth asking about the well diameter AND asking how he knows it’s aluminium. Test with a magnet ??

If the well is too small for a cone, you can cut a cone down with scissors and sit the sharp edge on a felt gasket. It's not ideal, but it works fine and still sounds good.
While the F holes look completely wrong, the workmanship looks really good. Whoever did it knows about working with metal.

It sold for about £100, too much for me. I hope someone who knows about resonators bought it. Pete
