yesterday right out of the blue, Unchained Melody started reverberating down the halls of my memory.
gave it a listen and there beside the video was You've Lost That Loving Feeling, had to hear it again also.
says a lot about the greatness of songs when they still move your soul that long after you first heard them:

If memory serves Unchained Melody was a hit for five different artists. Also one of the few songs where the title isn't featured in the song. 🙂

bonzo,
i had no idea of the song's popularity. even world-wide. after digging deeper i found this @ wiki:
Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the prison film Unchained (1955),[1] hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack.[2] It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers in 1965.[3] According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.[4]

I've played bass on 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' a few times with various bands over the years. A wonderful emotional song and that bass line is incredible (and I had to play it smack on) - used to bring me out in goose bumps every time I played it whilst watching the dance floor fill and sway. Enough from this ol'git for now...
