I used to be here before but forgot who i was! I have, today, been gifted 2 lovely Regal resos, hardly played - plastics still on one of them, in 2 new hard cases. Glorious things from a wonderful friend. Of course, my first questions are about how to amplify!

Today I made a realisation after playing these guitars and browsing around the 'net. They are strung incorrectly. The strings go under the bridge instead of over. I am sure this has not been done for any technical reason, rather just somebody didn't know. This means that when I restring, the action will be a decent height, rather than the surprisingly low action at the moment, which sounds great for fingerpicking but not for slide.

I saw that when you posted the photos on here a few days ago, but I didn’t want to worry you about it. Hopefully there’s enough break angle to be able to string it properly.

Hi radiostar, for what it’s worth, I have a dobro-style Regal that looks a lot like yours, certainly has the same inlay headstock - mine’s an RD40 (and a square neck). It was brand new when I got it (and also a gift, as it goes), and it came under-strung as yours is, also with d’darrios. Alarm bells rang when this was pointed out, but it was just fine when strung correctly - which was done asap. Fingers-crossed yours will be just fine too.

Talking to my good friend who gave me these, he said that they were strung that way when he received them new, so when he restrung the wooden bodied, he did it the same way. The tricone still has the original strings on - for now.
