I found a bargain dobro hound dog a few days ago. Metal body, 14f biscuit with chickenfoot cover plate, hardly used. I cut a new nut as the string spacing was too narrow. Put in a hand carved saddle (same issue). Bass response was poor, so had a look at the cone, and found it was dented, so I replaced it. The biscuit wasn't screwed on, just glued. The cone didn't even have a hole drilled! Gave neck a bit of relief, and plays great now. The body and neck are near perfect though.

I’ve played a few Far East Dobro Hound dogs and have found them underwhelming. I guess if the basic elements are sound you should, with a little work, get a good sound out of them. Why one of the worlds most famous companies can’t do it in the factory I don’t know! Michael M has managed to get guitars made and setup (are they a similar price?,not sure) without the backing of Gibson US. I’m sure there are some Hound dogs that come setup ok, but they ALL should be set up perfectly, Dobros from the 30s are still loved and played, Will Hound dogs made in the Far East be loved and played in 80years time? Possibly if TT gets hold of them first! Pete

I doubt that any leave the factory set up properly. I wouldn't be surprised if the body and neck assembly was done by competent people, but it's outsourced to absolute novices to finish off the little bits.
