So this arrived Wednesday. Another "I'll put a minimum bid although I'll surely be outbid" and of course I was the only bidder. I knew it had been refinished and suspected the fretboard wasn't original as it was unbound. However, if a replacement, someone went to the trouble of period correct frets and side dots. I was going to "re-refinish" it to look the more correct shaded brown tone but as I love the figure on the back I'm not sure I want to. The cone is a spun one of unknown origin. It appears to have had a neck reset and the action and intonation is great.

Great looking Guitar there, lovely quality Mahogany and Spruce by the look of it. Is the back veneered ? It looks like a one piece back then it has a strip of inlay up the middle. Someone took special care making that one. I wouldn't change the colour.

As far as I know, all pre-war Dobros whether L.A. or Regal made have completely laminated bodies. On all other Model 45 guitars I have seen photos of, the backs usually have straight grained figuring. I particularly like this swirling ribbon mahogany look. I did see one other Model 45 on Pinterest with an unbound ebony fretboard last night.

It looks fantastic - i have a 90s D60, not supposed to be the best era but i love that guitar. Would love to try a pre-war model
