Sad news that the wonderful activist, singer and actor, Harry Belafonte has died, but what an incredible 96 years he had.

There are numerous obituaries online today, so I thought I would share a personal connection that I had with Harry. Around 20 years ago, Harry contacted me because he was a fan and admirer of the African-American soul singer, Ted Hawkins, that I worked and recorded with. At first when I saw the email address of harrybelafonte@XXXX I thought it was a spammer, but it was real and Harry and I exchanged many emails over a few months. He was always so gracious, polite and full of praise for Ted and the album we made together. There was no ego, just an enthusiastic musician that loved talking with another musician.
Those emails exist somewhere on an old backup drive and someday they will turn up.
