I'm selling my NRP Polychrome Tricone 1994 - it's a black on grey-burst finish. Yesterday I took it out of its case to be photographed - first time it had seen the Sun since 2007 when I put it away after 12 years of playing in the house only. To my mind it's nicely patina-ed and the tailpiece and nickel tuners are nice and dull as I like them. But that's just my personal preference. The dilemma is - should I polish anything that is not showroom-shiny to attract buyers, or should I hope for buyers who know what they are looking for. After all, the degree of shininess will not change the loud barking of this beast

If I were a buyer I would know that I would be able to polish it but I wouldn't be able to add that patina back if you had polished it. I like the patina personally so am going to vote for don't polish. You could always polish it later so advertise unpolished and see how many fish you catch. If it's not successful could polish it and try again?

Hi Alderbury picker,
Welcome to our forum. I have moved your post because it is not an advert to sell your guitar, although I suspect that will come next.
I would not advise on whether or not you should polish your guitar, but I can tell you that your question is answered in your post, because any perspective buyer reading your words can see that it is an honest sale and a straight guitar. So my advice is to put what you have written in any adverts you use to sell the guitar.

Thanks MM - I did wonder if the post was in the correct place. Good advice - and you are right about the coming shortly (if one of the online traders doesn't knock on the door soon).
tbh the black/grey burst isn't beautiful except in an industrial sort of a way and I'm not aware of any other guitar that has a teflon neck-coating. My fingers never stuck to it so it must be working
