Hi there !
The plot thickens !!
That looks to me like a 3-piece body. I wonder if it is all-steel body, or mix of metals, or GS ??
It looks a bit of a mongrel ! My best guess it was supposed to be a Style O, but perhaps either the etched pattern was messed up at the factory - and they decided to paint a Walnut sunburst finish instead, over the nickel plating. Then, as the paint finish wouldn't stick well to the nickel-plating, it probably started to peel badly. I expect the guitar was then chrome plated outwith the factory - or maybe this was National trying chrome plating (but I doubt it).
The fretboard doesn't look original to me - and is the binding missing ? I can't see a gap for where the binding should be.

In Mark’s book it shows S625 as a Style N with silver back and copper top. This one is marked S557, so maybe they were trying things around this time (the neck is marked 894 W like a walnut Triolian). However, S557 is also listed as a variation 1 Style 0 in the book.

Hi Joey,
I have or have had 4 circa 1930 Style O’s :
S142 - all German Silver, 3-piece body (from you !) S518 - all steel, 2-piece body S618 - all brass 2-piece body with GS coverplate & tailpiece S824 - steel front & sides, brass back
I expect when this guitar you are talking about was reported to BB for his serial no. list, the owner at the time suspected non other than it being a Style O.

Richard, we may have to get this one in hand for a proper study... for historical purposes...

Richard, we may have to get this one in hand for a proper study... for historical purposes... This is a steel bodied Style 0 body that the factory used to make up the numbers on an order of Triolians. It would originally have been sprayed in Triolian colours and the "chrome" plating was done many years later. In the 60s and 70s everyone had their guitars plated because shiny was so much more cool than dull duco finishes. I have been through the same thing with MM Guitars. Factories do this type of thing. There is no more to it than that....IMHO Shine On Michael
