Peter Howlett Weisenborn. June 1997. This guitar was originally commissioned by Michael Messer, who ordered two. He kept one and sold the other to Stuart Cumberpatch of the Kennet Sheiks, who preferred his National, and passed it on to me. I’ve had it since late 1997. The instrument sounds amazing. A deep resonant bass and a very sweet top end. The hollow neck makes it sustain beautifully. Reason for sale. I don’t use and it needs to go to somebody who will! £750

I missed this one when it went to you, Barry! I can heartily recommend it to any prospective buyer...
I eventually replaced it with my Weissonator.
Nice to have you back here too!

Correction: These were not commissioned by me, Pete was already building them when I ordered mine. I actually ordered three because Pete offered me a good deal on that number of instruments. One went to Stuart Cumberpatch, one went to Mark Makin and the other was mine. I moved mine on in 2001 as part of a deal with the LRC.

The Mark Makin one went to former friend of the forum Chris Steinhauer, he and Mark horse traded over something or other maybe a lovely little Collings parlor. Irrespective I sold it for Chris's widow last year so it has jumped on to somewhere or other, they are lovely guitars. Despite the name they were mahogany as opposed to koa. Interesting in listening recently to David Lindley talk about his weissenborns he states the best sounding vintage ones he owned were not Koa but black acacia, so there you go.

Lee, I think you’re correct about that, if I remember correctly. I do now have the little Collings.

Hi just jumping in on this post. I have a Pete howlett #169. I bought it off Kevin Brown back in 2010. I met Pete at a uke fest in Cheltenham and showed it to him. He only makes ukes now. Lovely chap and great luthier
