As part of my clear out here is ‘Arry Armadillo, a Charango made by Sabino Orozco e hijos, La Paz, Bolivia Sound wise you can think of it as a Ukulele with an extra high string. It has 5 courses of 2 strings, though high string is a single due to nut damage (photo). The sound bowl is made of an Armadillo shell. I think it was probably made in the 70’s, CITES regulations would have prohibited its export after around ‘76. Modern charangos have wooden sound bowls. I’ll throw in the funky Inca bag and a set of Aquila strings £125. Prefer collection from Leeds but will post to UK mainland address for £15. No case but it will be packed carefully. click here for photos
