Hi Everyone
i'm relative new to the group. Just picked up my first resonator. I took a punt on the republic RS1, there's not much info on the web, so i wondered if anyone knew anything about it ?
its a round neck, its a beautiful looking guitar, i believe its laminated maple, it has lovely tree/leaf inlays on the freboard and gorgeous building all round the body. Its a spider cone - which i thought would suit me as i am more of a bluegrass/americana sort of player.
but any info on these would be very welcome.
thanks in advance
Andy

Here you go..... This is a generic and well made Dobro that was and maybe still is produced with no brand name, so that companies can put their own logo on the headstock. Here's a thread about them.... michaelmesser.proboards.com/thread/13209/busker-tennesseeAlso if you just do a search for Busker Tennessee resonator guitar you may turn up a couple. Shine On Michael

Hi Michael thanks for the reply, mine looks similar but has more refined appointments. It has abalone (or similar) binding round the body, with rosewood binding out side that, the same binding on the neck and also abalone leaves on the fretboard. it does look the part ! - i'll need to up my skill a bit before i know if it sounds the part, but i'm enjoying it so far ! here's a picture of one the same, it might even be the one ! reverb.com/uk/item/64085476-republic-rs1-resonator-acoustic-guitar-sunburst-w-casethanks again Attachments:republic.jfif (89.22 KB)

That is not a criticism because they are really good spider bridge Dobro style guitars for the price. You would struggle to beat it for that money. I may be wrong, but I don't think they exist anymore. Both Republic & Busker found them around the same time. There were only a few of them made. Sometimes manufacturers appear out of nowhere in China believing it's an easy thing to sell their product to Western customers. Sometimes, like these Dobros, it doesn't last more than a few guitars. Thanks Michael
thats really helpful.
I did find one thread on here from a few years ago, you were speaking to a member who didn't like his for blues and your comment that they were good guitars helped to convince me to give it a go !
I'm inexperienced with resonators but have had plenty of quality acoustics over the years, it certainly looks the part.
thanks again Michael

The F holes are very like the ones Gibson put on some of their Chinese made spider bridge models*. I would not be surprised if they were made in the same factory.
* Gibson bought the Dobro name 20 or so years ago but they have little connection with the original Dobro other than the style of cone and bridge. Pete
