Hi everyone, I was just scrolling through the resonators on Reverb (a favourite pastime!) and came across this odd looking tricone: reverb.com/uk/item/62137616-national-style-1-silverThe seller claims it's a 1930's instrument yet it has a very strange neck/headstock/body shape. Could this possibly be a fake? For the low price it seems far too good to be true. Keen to hear thoughts!

100% not a 1930s National. Also not a modern National Reso-Phonic.
Cool looking guitar but not for that price.

It is also a Style 3 not a Style 1.

1930s truss rod cover? Cross head screws all over it? Kluson alike tuners? Headstock logo - look at the'T' and the 'I'.
Good try but no cigar and I'm not even on the bottom rung of the ladder of resonator experts.
Shouldn't Reverb be made aware of this?

To me that looks like a style 3 Continental from the 90's with the logo scrubbed off. They had 2 different types of logo's i seem to remember. On the Mahogany headstocks it was white lettering with a gold sphere and a plain black one used on the engraved models like this one with the Pearloid headstocks. That's my guess anyway.

Good to confirm my suspicions! I reported the listing to reverb. Lovely looking guitar but wouldn't want someone to get ripped off. Perhaps the seller didn't realise.

You nail it Waffle, it's a Continental, post '94...but perhaps when bodies are made in China (asian shaped tailpiece and strap button); pretty but not absolutely what someone may believe...I hope the seller wasen't fooled.

Skateborg23,I think you're missing the point here. This guitar is not a fake it is a style 3 Continental tricone from the 90's and if it were being sold correctly as that, then it would have easily sold by now with a sensible price tag. The price in the 90's for that Continental guitar would have easily cost around £2400. The question is why would someone put a fake National logo on a genuine Continental style 3 tricone and mislead buyers into believing it's a Vintage National? which it clearly is not.

On the Reverb site specs section it clearly states "Brand - National".
If you click on the word 'National' it opens up a page linking to 'National Resonator Guitars' with info about both original National, and later National Reso-Phonic Guitars.
The listed guitar is neither of these, so it is a 'fake', regardless of the worth.
