Has anyone here owned a 1990 Gibson Dobro Zephyr Flame Maple? A guy on FB is selling his and it looks very unique. I've never seen a Dobro like this before.

Gibson? 1990? I though Gibson took over in ‘93? Pete
They are rare ( Mark Makin’s Book says only 20-30 were made.

Forum member, Lee, has owned one of these. They are rare and interesting guitars.
Here's a quote from Mark Makin's book about them....
"The production version of the Zephyr. Fewer than 30 instruments are known to have left the factory. A couple of them were fitted with 8 strings. It retailed at $1400. Don Young recalled that the first eight or nine of the standard six string instruments were fitted with the black chevron type headstock which had been designed by McGregor Gaines. After Don and McGregor left the company in 1988, the Zephyr remained in production until Gibson’s take-over" Mark Makin (https://markmakin.co.uk)

Yes I had one briefly, I did show it to Michael before it had surgery done on it by Dave King, thety were built at a time when OMi was trying interesting stuff although the quality was in some cases in question.
Plastic nut had to be replaced, cone lip routed and lowered as spider legs touching the coverplate, the DOBRO inlay on the neck was crude at best, despite all this interesting guitars, mine was shipped from Stockholm to the UK. I sold it via Ron in the original London Resonator centre, I keep very little but buy a lot!!!
Regards
Lee
