Yes that is the 1st generation early ones, has the paint stayed intact as I have seen some where it has come away from the metal, not sure if it was a reaction to the steel or a paint problem, also where are you based???

I haven't seen the finish for 15 years. The guitar was ~13 years old then and had no issues.
I can't enthuse about the appearance - when I ordered this guitar it was on the basis of a prototype being toured by Roy Book Binder, which was in an all pale grey finish with maple fingerboard iirc. Also with a slotted headstock. The early production models were not the same, as can be seen.
