I’ve got a lovely ‘28 tenor tricone with a repaired tailpiece that is failing again. I’d love a replacement. If anyone has an orphan tailpiece floating around I’d love to buy it.
Thanks Baron

Hi Baron, Elderly Instruments sell a modern replacement : www.elderly.com/products/resonator-mandolin-tailpiece. It might keep you playing until you can get a better repair on your original one. National Resophonic also make a Tenor guitar, but they appear to use the same repro tailpiece with enough prongs for four or eight strings. Cheers, David T

Mr Mandobaron, it could be greatly appreciated if you will let us know if this repro tailpiece fits your old Tenor. A friend of mine had a weakened tailpiece on his old mandolin too. By looking at this tailpiece, I wonder if their angle is correct for an old National? It seems that these import mandolins are somewhat smaller and shorter than the old Nat's.
Thanks you all.

Seems like the Elderly repro will work. The angle was too much but easily adjusted. The endpin hole is lined up with my tenor but needs to be widened slightly. I’ll either have to string ball end strings through the opposite ends, revert to loop ends, or modify the hooks on the tailpiece. Will keep you posted once it’s all sorted out.
