Hi , I am going through a bit of a baritone phase (probably my age !) So before I think of getting a dedicated baritone resonator I thought I would try re- stringing one of my Nationals with a set of MM Newtone 16-59s and tuning down to B. On a scale of 1-10 how stupid would this be ? π€

1.
I tuned my Blues 28 down to C with a set of MM Monel 13s fitted.
It sounded bloody fantastic.

Hi there !
The only real problem you might have is the fatter strings not fitting well into the nut and bridge slots. If the strings don't seat fully into the slots (especially the nut), the strings will be too high above the fretboard - and cause intonation problems if & when you try to fret strings. The longer scale of Baritone guitars allow a decent string tension at your chosen baritone tuning. You will likely find the strings too flappy, on a standard scale length.

It is possible to put a 14 fret neck on a 12 fret body ( the finger board will have to be changed) to give a scale length of about 27β . I have done this with a Lightning that had itβs neck broken in Transit ( it could have been another make of van ) . Standard strings still fit this scale, so I tuned it to E Spanish. Pete

Don't see why not - as long as it has a 27" scale length fretboard - or whatever scale length that will suit the nut to saddle distance.
