Don't know much about them. Are they USA or shanghai made? Where in the pecking order are they - NRP or republic standard etc? Do they have any connection to NRP?? TT

TT Hi TT, I assume you mean Hot Rod resonator guitars, rather than Hot Rod cones? Hot Rod Guitars was a short lived brand created by Lenny Gethoffer in California. It ran for a couple of years and then collapsed. Hot Rod Guitars was trying to compete with Republic, but was not successful at it. Considering NRP were his biggest customers, as he was a dealer for their guitars, I was always amazed that they let him use that name, or maybe they didn't. They were produced in Shanghai by a company that also doesn't exist any more. Shine On Michael

HI TT, I've forgotten about point of manufacture, but recall observations on the forum. The general consensus seems to be that while they are an OK cone they weren't any improvement over Continentals. I recently bought a tricone that the owner had 'upgraded' with hotrods only to reinstall the Continentals saying the sound was better in his opinion. He sent along the hotrods, I have no intention of repeating his experiment! I think there is a thread somewhere with loads of comments. Best wishes to you all, John

Thanks all - yes, guitars. There's a hot rod 'knopfler' style guitar on ebay in UK. Looks nice, but probably overpriced at £700 "buy it now"? TT

Pretty guitar, looks in good condition. As MM alluded on a par with Republics, I have a few that I like 👍. For £500 it could be a good buy but not £700 IMO Buskers style 0 guitars do turn up, I picked one up for a lot less than £500 here on the forum, like it very much. Maybe post your desires in tin can alley!

£700 for a used Hot Rod guitar from Lenny?
Same money would buy you a new Michael Messer brand guitar of considerably better standard and setup.
