If it was the same one I saw, It looked like the Duolian’s National made for Sears.

That is not the work of any of the Dopyera family, or anyone connected to the National name. Nothing about it is anything like a National. The coverplate is not a Sears one, it is the wrong shape and the detail is wrong, the body is the wrong shape and the F holes are terrible. I think I know what I am seeing, but I prefer not to say. It is important when looking at stuff like this to see what is really there, rather than what we would like to be there.

I went back and looked again after Michael’s post. I should look more closely next time. I saw the cover plate in my feed a thought Sears. I definitely see the difference. I always wonder why someone would try and get away with something like this. Thanks Michael for your post.

Looks like a copy made by someone without access to the real thing. I made something that looked like a National ( from a distance) in the 60s. The only reference I had were a few photos on LP covers. The Dopyera brothers already had the body sorted out , their first Tricones ( which were made before the single cone models were designed) were well made , so this is not a ‘prototype’ just a copy, and a rather rough one if the solder joints are original rather than repairs.

Hi there !
Totally agree !
IF this was THE very first single-cone, metal bodied guitar by National, a mock-up by them, the quality of the fit and soldering would be better - as they could already do much better. This definitely looks to be a vintage copy-attempt - no more.
