I'm now the delighted and very proud owner of an MM Lightning :-) What a beautiful guitar this is - to look at, to play, to listen to. I'm very happy indeed, and it was an absolute delight to deal with Michael.
I'm new to resonators so don't really have a clue yet how to record them, play them, place the microphone, even get the thing to balance on my leg! The plan is to play slide in Open G on this one most of the time, but I'm not very skilled at slide yet, and so, as I desperately wanted to share my joy, I just did a version of Staggerlee in dropped D.
Thanks Michael!
CheersDerek

The brass body tone suits your playing style and you sound great playing it. Lovely! Thanks Derek >>E N J O Y !!! Shine On Michael

Still working on some slide, but nothing worthy of sharing yet. Meanwhile here's song #2 on the new Lightning:

Song # 3 on the Lightning is (finally some slide!) a little bit of Tampa Red. I'm still struggling with the slide, but edging forwards. Also struggling to get my right hand damping in the sweet spot between a thump and a note - this is much much harder on a resonator than on a standard acoustic. Wondering whether I might need some heavier strings, too?
Cheers Derek

Derek, that sounds great. You asked about strings and whether you should go heavier. My advice would be to get a .015 for the top E and leave the rest as 56 46 36 26 17 with a 15 on the top. That will give you more bite. I string all my guitars with those gauges and have done for many decades.
You might also consider your playing position. Don't have the guitar tipped back, much better to have it sitting on your leg and at right angle to your body, maybe with the neck angled forward. That way it is easier and more comfortable to get under the fretboard with your left hand and then the slide will be at a better angle too.

Thanks Michael. I think those are the gauges I have on the Lightning - I haven't swapped the strings since getting the guitar. Must confess I've been struggling to find a way of keeping it on my leg whilst playing - the weight keeps causing it to slip. I've tried a strap but when the strap is tight enough to support the guitar it feels like I don't have enough flexibility of movement. It's getting better though, and your suggestion to not lean the guitar back so much is something I'll experiment with. I can see why that will give a better angle for the slide. Thanks, again, Derek
