I’m interested to try a better cone in my Dobro. Does anyone in the UK have a decent cone they no longer need? Thanks.

Hello John. I don't know, it's what came fitted from the far east. I've taken it out to enquire and it seems pretty budget, so I'm interested to try something better.

That will help narrow the search. Also I think I've read on the forum that sizes can vary so pics and measurements might help you. I'll check what I've got, I know I've picked up a few here and there.

Hi Kristo, what make is the guitar? That might help us to identify the cone.

It's a Tuscany, which from what I can conclude are basically the same as Regals.

Hi Kristo,
I am guessing that is a bass guitar? If so, you might get something more from a different cone, but not much.
Twenty years ago I was given an Ozark resonator bass. I think Ozark gave it to me...they must have done. It sounded terrible so I put a National cone in it that I had hanging around. It made little difference so I gave it to a bass player friend for using as a home practice guitar. I don't think he has ever used it!
If the Dopyeras thought they could make bass instruments, they would have done so. They did make a few one-off upright basses that we've all seen in photos, but by all accounts they didn't work.

Yeah. it is a bass. I've had a few acoustic basses (and an upright), and it definitely does a good job for keeping up in acoustic settings, particularly when using a pick. Only the upright was louder, but a logistical pain. I've tried the Ozark (with the biscuit/National style cone), and was underwhelmed. I think spider style basses work a bit better.
I had it listed for sale, but am intrigued to see if a better quality cone would improve the sound/volume.

I still want a reso bass that has a neck wide enough to fit 6 strings on. I think a 30” baritone would be fun. Pete
