Hi everyone, I noticed on social media recently that our friends, Martyn & Jack, the Washboard Resonators, have a UK tour coming up in November and knowing how difficult it is to tour and sell tickets in our current climate, I thought I would do my bit to help them out by posting something on here about it. Please try and get along to one of their shows as I know how much is at stake for them going out on the road for a month. Martyn & Jack know nothing of this posting. I wish them a successful tour and safe travels. Shine On Michael

Awwww!
Thanks Michael. This is kind and we’ve had a little spike in ticket sales this evening!
Hoorah!!
The general consensus from our pals that do gigs on ticket sales is that they’re down by 20-50%.
TBH we’re looking forward to getting out in support of our new album The Streamlined Rag.
Thanks and we hope to meet resonator fans new and old!!

I’d be there if they were coming anywhere near me.

We’re trying to get around as much as poss but sometimes venues or areas don’t lineup.
Lots of reticence from venues generally wren booking these gigs over the summer.
In the meantime do follow what we’re up to with our tour diaries…

The style 0 cone got squashed at a gig by someone moving gear. It went to Steve at Beltona and he reshaped it. Works fine but perhaps has lost 15% tone. Need to get a new cone ordered. I used my 1935 Trojan for a week while Steve had the Style O. It was awesome actually and got lots of lovely comments from guitar types. 😎

I used my 1935 Trojan for a week while Steve had the Style O. I try to be super careful with my guitars and stage crews. These days I only travel with Calton cases when flying, but that's the safest way to do it. Hard to do sometimes, but in the Calton case at all times except for the performance. That cone may stay up for a very long time, it's impossible to know, so it is worth getting a spare. I have pushed out a cone on a friend's guitar that is still holding up after a few years gigging. Shine On Michael

Hey Michael.
It’s sounding fine and dandy and now nearly a week later seems to have settled back to very near its original tone.
I will order another and get it put in and then keep this reshaped cone as the future spare.
I use the foam cases and never have a problem normally. It was only a gig in Morley 15 mins away from the house but it got a knock and I can’t be sure by who. Gah!
Enjoyed using the Trojan and it may have set us off on a quest to use vintage nationals on stage. Time will tell…
For anyone interested here is Week 4 of the tour diaries…

Aarrgghhh !
Stage hands !
I always use full flight-cases for my electric keyboards (fully-weighted, 88 key "stage pianos") - as they are heavy, and knobs can get knocked off otherwise. Both bands I play in were playing at the Edinburgh J&B Fest, back in 2018 (plus Bernie Marsden played with us for most of our band set). And THEN, the piano player for Mud Morgandfield used my piano too. I was playing guitars in one band, & piano in the other. By the time I had packed up all my gear at the end of the night, the Stage-Hand "helper" had put my keyboard back in it's custom-fitted flight-case for me - as they wanted packed up asap. It was only at the next day's gig, when I opened up my case to find the Stage Hand had put my Sustain pedal in there too, on top (where there is no room for it !!!!) He must have had to force the lid closed. So, removing the pedal from the top of my keyboard, I found a hefty scratch all down the front panel of my brand new (£1899) keyboard. I don't even use the sustain pedal - I only brought it for this other piano player, playing on my piano ! So that put a downer on the excitment of the other two gigs I had that weekend, backing John Primer (ex Muddy Waters).
I don't let ANYBODY touch my stuff these days !!!!!

I’ve always found it a numbers game with gigging gear.
It’s a matter of time for a knock or damage to appear.

Gigging in Morley - FFS - why do I always see notifications after you've gigged rather than before?
