www.ebay.com/itm/184816966631?hash=item2b07f31be7:g:I0YAAOSwHihgkq8lNow once I had subterranean termites come through my floor into a bookcase, and drywood termites invade my attic...but a guitar neck? I used to buy antique furniture in London in the '70s, and often found wormwood in beech pieces stored in cellars...but a guitar neck? I guess it's a good thing the guitar wasn't an El Trovador (although according to one of my termite inspectors as a rule they don't like laminated wood)...

My 1936 National cast lap steel still has the dead bugs inside it that were there when I got it 31 years ago. They are an important part of its character and when it was rewired around 25 years ago, all the bugs were kept safely in a jar and returned to the guitar after the work was done. It has been credited on albums as "dead bug lap steel" Oh yes, and a Mesa Boogie Mk1 60/100 with the wood casing and whicker front... Back in around 1989 or thereabouts it got a serious dose of woodworm and had to be stripped down and treated. The inside was a mass of holes and it needed some serious attention. I don't have it anymore, but I was convinced it improved the tone by removing some of the wood and altering the resonance. That is probably total bollox, but I like to think it did. oops...the last paragraph does not fit in "National Avenue", but it's here now. Shine On Michael

if termites are a known problem in your home, go to a cabinet shop and buy some cedar saw dust from there. [may even be glad to give it to you in place of their labor involved in disposal]
put it in a fabric sack, or even an old sock inside the case pocket.
can also be beneficial for covering up the nasty smell old cases often get. my OEM Gibson S1 case used to reek...
