Recently got my hands on a used Blues 28. What gauge strings were originally installed? Anyone swapped out the phosphor bronze for MM monel? Thanks,

Yes, a resounding YES!
Newtone MM Monels 13-56 improved a bl88dy good guitar to a Flipping good guitar!
I now use MM Monels on all my acoustical guitars including a JB 12 string.

13-56 if tuned up to concert E. 15-56 if kept in OpenD/G Monels are my preferred but will go to phos bronze. I only use Newtone strings on my resos. Diamond Bottleneck slides. Fantastic guitar, strings and slide.

I've always gone for nickel wound strings but pursuant to a recent drive to encourage Newtone to dip their toes into Monel I tried the Monel. I haven't been struck particularly by the Monel reference to Nickel, but they're certainly long lasting so I suspect that if I feel the need to change strings again before I give up the struggle, it may well be Monel again. I have a mental block regarding PB on a metal bodied reso, but that is a subjective and unfounded viewpoint.

Wasn't sure how heavy to go with the wood body. Will try the monel .015 - .056. Thanks for the info.

Got her strung up with monels, less metal slide noise to my ear; overall, more mellow without loss of volume.
