I have a well used NRP hard case which has a bu88erd catch which is/was pop riveted in place
I have obtained a new catch of the correct dimensions and I have a pop rivet tool to do the job.
However, I haven't a clue what size rivets I need and I don't know how these rivet sizes (length, diameter, etc,)are quoted.
Can anyone point me in the right direction so's I can order the correct rivets, please?

Morning PD,
Now that is one that I have never been asked before!
May I suggest you drop Dave King an email, or better still, a call, because he "might" know the answer. Or, contact NRP HQ and ask them. They don't make the cases, they come from China, but you never know.
Another suggestion is that you take the case and the new lock to a suitcase repairer.

Are you still in lock down? You could just take the pop rivet gun and case into a decent DIY shop and ask for the right rivets for the job.
I had a broken catch on my NRP case and NRP were able to source me a replacement, I took the case to a leather worker at the local market who fixed it free of charge.

You want / need "peel head" or "exploding rivets PD. You can buy them on eBay. I changed the handle on my Calton dread case because it's a very early example of Keith's craftsmanship, and he fitted undersized (in my view) leather handles. We used to use those peel head rivets at work so I knew what I was searching for. Go for 5/32 at a minimum or better still 3/16 if your pliers will take them. The nozzle may take the 3/16 mandrels, but the jaws inside may still reject them in a forlorn attempt at self preservation! When pulled up, on the "inside" they look like four peeled leaves of a banana skin that curl back on themselves to the substrate and in this case the plush. Make certain to cover the set rivets on the inside with some protection if there's any chance at all of any contact with the guitar. This goes for any addition to the case but especially so with pop rivets. Covering them is trivial to do with a Calton as anyone who owns one will confirm. I know I still have some left over here somewhere, but I do have rather a lot of "stuff"! How many do you think you'll want PD?

Stevie - Thank you!
The plush bit is easy as the existing stuff peels back so's I can get straight to the wood.
6 will suffice, allowing one for cock ups - let me know if you find some and I'll get cash stuff organized.

Found 'em! They're 5/32" (those lacking in sufficient decades might recognise 4mm - nominally) and they have 1/2" of gripping length, but since they peel over once pulled up, I guess you have to say a little less than that. I used them to fasten the pressed metal handle attachments to my fibre glass case no problem. Bear in mind that a suitable washer used together with an ordinary pop rivet will probably achieve the same end result?
