Looking to sell my spider bridge hog dobro and get an MM. Into delta and hill country stuff and more contemporary players like Chris Whitley and Charlie Parr. Slide and finger style. Which model is most appropriate? More inclined towards a metal body than wood body guitar.

Hello littlebobby, Firstly, welcome to the forum. There are none better. Secondly, you won’t find a friendlier place to discuss all things resonator and slide guitar. Michael Messer is one of the foremost experts on all things resonator. There’s no such thing as a dumbass question on here either. So, to answer your question; ln my opinion, the nearest MM you will to sounding like Charlie Parr’s 3 cone Mule and Chris Whitley’s resonators is an MM Lightning. There are loads of owners on here that can fill you in with the fine detail.
Regards Chris

The lightning is brass and 12f. The 'blues' is steel and 12 or 14f. TT

Hi Littlebobby, I'd just like to second what Chris has said about Michael Messer and his guitars. After many years tinkering with open tunings and slide with a cheap accoustic I took the plunge and bought an MM Lightning. I am very glad I did. Some years previously I had tried side by side in guitar shop an NRP tricone and Style O and a steel bodied NRP Delphi (all 12 fretters). I remembered that soundwise I liked the combination of the biscuit bridge and brass body of the style O best. Reading reviews and comments here I figured that the MML was the one I wanted. Communication and service from Michael was first class and I just love the guitar. If I win the lottery I would happily collect the set (Blues and Bluse 28 12 and 14 frets)! I love the MML's sound and to my ears it sounds as good as the NRP Style O I tried.

Hiya fella, I own MM Lightening and MM Blues 28. Both do the job, the size, weight and neck widths are different which you might consider your needs.
The Lightening is awesome but I find the 28 more versatile.
If you can find someone who lives near ask if you can try them out.
Regards Steve IOM

MM Blues 28 I have is very versatile - no hesitation in recommending one.
...and yes, if you're nearby you are welcome to have a shot.

So I sold the dobro and now I’m trying to find a used MM. No joy so far. Any pointers? I am buying a house so trying to keep the expenditure down but also considering selling a tele partscaster to fund it
