Have just replaced a barrel jack on a newish Gibson Thunderbird. I do not like barrel jacks ( or endpin jacks) though they are small and neat and I have used them on some of my guitars. This jack was wired incorrectly. The earth (screen) wire was only connected to the ‘switch’ pin, rather than the earth . You might be able to see that the earth tag/pin has never been soldered. Barrel jacks have very small contacts and a better way is to join any switch tags/pins together. It means you have at least (some barrel jacks have 4 or 5 extra pins) 2 contacts for the earth/screen, which must be better. Pete As my drawing shows, you can only do this on mono, non switching systems. The tag I have joined to earth/screen is used as a battery on/off on guitars with preamps and the second channel on stereo setups
