Hi everyone. Michael mentions in an earlier post that the illustrations in Mark Makins wonderful book are exactly that, illustrations! Which must really make us stop and think about the effort and dedication Mark, assisted by MM, put into this project. Those of us lucky to own a copy can enjoy the fruits of their labours. Anyone who's not aware of the book should put it on their birthday present wish list (or treat yourself if your birthday is too far away)!
Best wishes to you all, John

Which must really make us stop and think about the effort and dedication Mark, assisted by MM, put into this project. Those of us lucky to own a copy can enjoy the fruits of their labours. Anyone who's not aware of the book should put it on their birthday present wish list (or treat yourself if your birthday is too far away)! Best wishes to you all, John John, It was all Mark's work. All I did was support and encourage him along the way. There were many hours of phone calls and hundreds of emails over the eight years it took Mark to complete the book."Don't worry Mark, only another 600 illustrations to do. Get back to work!" was my contribution. Oh yes, and I spent three weeks proof reading it with Mark. Mark had been planning this book for as long as I have known him, which is now 37 years. I remember him showing me illustration ideas and discussing the content way back in the mid 80s. Then when Brozman decided to to a book which was published in 1993, Mark helped him in a way that went way beyond a little bit of help. Of course Mark was never properly credited for his involvement with that project and that made him even more intent on doing his own book. Palm Trees, Senoritas and Rocket Ships is an extraordinary piece of work. It took 50 years of research to create and is literally a lifetime achievement. Dedication and commitment in the true sense of the words. The work didn't stop when the book was published. In fact the existence of the book opened so many new doors for him that it was a new starting point for Mark to continue his research and study of this subject. Since it was published in 2013, Mark has created another hundred or so pages to a second volume that may never exist. Shine On Michael

Michael your modesty does you credit. But having met Mark he left me in no doubt as to how valued your contribution was. About these hundred pages...... I'm not sure exactly what crowd funding is but I'm pretty sure that owners of the book would be willing to chip in on the cost of an appendix, if that's the right word! I certainly would. What do we think?
Best wishes to you all, John
Or a second volume. 😉👍👍

Ditto !
Any lover if all things National & Dobro related would do well to buy this book PLUS it would serve to “pay back” Mark Makin, for his enormous amount of dedication to the guitar world that should stand forever

Probably worth resurrecting THIS THREAD from 2016 particularly with regard to Mark's post.
