The weather got cool here in NJ so I decided to stick with the finish previously applied...just sanded it smooth with 1500 grit...and put it together with the parts on hand. Had to elevate the fingerboard, but it seems to be ok. May try to touch up the finish before it goes on ebay.

Hey Fred, That looks as good or better as any of Republic's finishes! Nice job. I have a Hwy 61 and it's a really nice little guitar.

Hi there !
Nice job, Fred.
Anyone know if Republic still make a Highway 61 Traveller (the short-scale model) ?
It would be ideal for my nearly 12yr old son who started on ukes over 4years ago, switched to baritone uke 3yrs ago, then guitar about 15 months ago. I think he is finally taking an interest in my Nationals but they are still too big & heavy for him, plus I like 13-56 strings with high action !
I got a great deal on a used Taylor GS-Mini 18 months back for him to learn on - and that has circa a 22” scale length which he is very comfortable with, so I’d think the short scale Highway 61 would be ideal for him. I prefer the polished nickel-plated finish. The Republic website shows the short-scale models are all “Sold Out” but no idea if that would also mean out of production, or what.

Snakehips...just contact Frank Helsley at Republic. He may have one kicking around. I actually have a Hwy 61 steel body (I removed the green paint to find sort of shiny steel body underneath) with a shorty neck that I was planning to put on ebay. But I realize shipping and duties from USA to UK is cumbersome...
