Three good maxims for students of any instrument: play it slowly and correctly and speed will come, don't practice more than 50 mins.without a break and don't fall into the trap of practicing your mistakes. The Grossman viddys are excellent by the way.

It's training your subconscious until you can do it without consciously thinking about it. It's why taking a break is important, it gives your subconscious mind a chance to bed in the lesson.
Same reason you can't think of an answer to a question, you go off and do something else then it comes to you.

Thank you all for your advice ..it is coming together ..... To quote Willie Brown from one of my favourite movies Crosroads "You ain't even the beginnin' of a pimple on the "Late Great" Robert Johnson's ass!" this is true of me but i never thought a couple of years ago i would ever be able to play even a small section of an RJ tune.

Jono, just keep practicing and also having fun with it. If you do get a tutor or use an online tutor, make sure they know what they’re talking about because most don’t.
