A good bloke to point you in the right direction would be my mate Mik Critchlow at Bluemoon Bottleneck Co. in Ashington - he's a great chap, so give him a call and tell him Ian at Diamond sent you - he'll know pretty much everybody in the Tyneside area who wears a slide Slide On! Hi there !
Newcastle and surrounding area has a great number of fantastic players. It seems (to me) to be a hot-bed of talent there.
Try looking out for Jim Murray and his associates Hokum Hotshots (Rob Mason and Jim Murray) Lee Bates and Billy Newton One-man-band Ray Stubbs Hot Lick Cookies
There are other guys from that area living elsewhere now, that I rate highly - Gypsy Bill Williams (in York, I think), Graeme Robinson (in Colne).
Most of these guys play slide guitar on Nationals (in fact many, like myself own more than one National, so going to their gigs is a great way to see some vintage Nationals, if you haven't been up close to them before. I was like a magnet to Nationals when I first got interested in them 20 years ago !! Check out Youtube with these names - you will find some of them at least (not perhaps on slide, on the selections they are on youtube with, but still good anyway).
I do apologise if I left anyone out.
These guys will tell you of other greats in the area.
