I came across this accidentally, looking for YT videos of Gordon Smith the medium! Some lovely blues playing. A little research showed John Peel once described him as “ The foremost white Blues guitarist in the world “.

In 1968, in the heat of the so called British Blues Boom, Gordon Smith recorded an album for the Blue Horizon label called 'Long Overdue', which was produced by Mike Vernon. Mike and Neil Slaven owned Blue Horizon and recorded many legendary artists, including.... John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Champion Jack Dupree, Chicken Shack....and many more.
'Long Overdue' is a very fine album and Gordon's playing is excellent on it, especially for the time. I discovered Gordon in the early 1980s and got hold of a copy. Gordon also recorded a couple of albums in 1979 and 1980 for the Italian label that I recorded for a few years later, Appaloosa Records, which was owned by the late Franco Ratti. I think I got copies of them from Franco. In fact I think it was Franco that turned me on to Gordon's music. We all made records for Franco's Appaloosa Records label.

Am I right in thinking Gordon played around London in the 80's, the Railway Tavern comes to mind. Best wishes to you all, John

Players like Gordon Smith don't grow on trees. His album "Long Overdue" is a very special piece of work.

Playing albums today (see vinyl junkies thread) and came across Gordon doing some tasty licks on a Kevin Coyne album! Who knew! Should read more liner notes which us vinyl junkies are always saying are a great feature of the 12 inch album format! Thanks again jono for getting me started on a day long surf through my albums! SURF! Where's the Beach Boys!
Best wishes to you all, John
