ok so this band Greta Van Fleet are getting all sorts of stick because of there clearly apparent likeness to Led Zep... I don't think the stick is because they are like LZ. I think its more to do with them being nowhere near as good as LZ, nowhere near as good as many 'unknown' acts, and that they (or their parents?) may well have bought their way to success. Personally, I don't give a monkeys about all that - I just think they're dull and cliche ridden. But that seems to be a roadmap to success for some. TT

All you say may be true TT, or it may be the case that they are playing to a younger audience who have never been able to see the bands of our time. Remember the debate about LZ ripping off blues songs and passing them off as there own? Blood sweat and tears, Chicago et al used to really p off my jazzer mates with 'crossover' albums. They all sounded pretty good though, and are now regarded as classic bands! Also turned a lot of people onto blues and jazz! Music is of its time, and I always like to see people out at gigs or supporting their bands, pretty much as we did eh! Best wishes to you all, John

Music is of its time, and I always like to see people out at gigs or supporting their bands, pretty much as we did eh! Best wishes to you all, John Hello All, Theft of music? A bit of a contentious issue to which I've given a bit of thought over time. I think it's safe to say there is no music 100% original ( FZ being closer than many,) no one 100% unoriginal either ( I've heard numerous hotel cover bands play eagles tunes... better than the eagles) My experience has been that when there is a bit of money involved, art tends to become homogeneous and boring. One of the things I like about blues music is that it's not so much about the song, but the way the artist expresses that thing that's got to get out. Don't we all have a bit of that ? I've heard a dozen versions of "Sitting on Top of the World" and every one has a personal difference, entertaining and resonant in its own way. For me they might as well be different songs. As much as I'd like, I'll never play it like anyone other than me. There is no doubt in my mind that race played a big part in the theft and marketing of music here in America for many years... I also know that unscrupulous producers took writing credits and ownership for art they did not create. Much less now, there will always be thieves. There will always be lawsuits. I like to think of music having shared DNA and see it changing constantly, similar to human evolution. ( adaptation, growth and changes , both positive and negative ) I think of the "business" of music, akin to peeing in that gene pool... edit: just wanted to add that one of my proudest moments as a parent was when finding that my daughter had discovered vinyl and borrowed a lot of my old favorite albums.. I figure, Greta Van Fleet is just carrying it on in their own way. I can only imagine what their grandkids will get up to. all best, Jeff ps. I'm listening to Leon Redbone, another great musician who as far as I know, never has written a song... in 1930's mono 😜

There once was a note, pure and easy Playing so free, like a breath rippling by The note is eternal, I hear it, it sees me Forever we blend it...

richards- ""There's only one song, and Adam and Eve wrote it; the rest is a variation on a theme" I presume the song was ' You're the First, the Last, my Everything'

was thinking more somewhere in between "sympathy for the devil", "no expectations", "time waits for no one" and "fool to cry".

I thought the children had turned their backs to the ways of rock, it's nice to know someone still cares about the 1970's.
