Looking for the above for my Anderwood guitar. Taking into account price more than anything (I'm not paying £80 for a capo until I'm asked to play the Albert Hall) the Woodshed capo LINK looks a good deal at £22.50 on ebay. Anybody got experience of one? An original (not Wave) Beard dobro capo looks good too but they don't seem to be readily available. Unless anyone has one for sale?

Hi Graeme Charlie's Capo is the best square neck capo around at the moment, but it will cost you £80 plus postage to the UK. charliescapo.comThe GM capo is also very good, but quite bulky. I have one because my square neck Tricone has very low strings. gmcapo.com/index.htmlThe one you have seen looks okay, it is a copy of the Beard and it is not expensive. Shine On Michael.

Thanks Michael--I'll probably go for the Woodshed I think. I bought THIS ONE from Washboard Chris Jono.

Hi I'm in total agreement re the price of some capos and looked at the woodshed capo. I have not used one but felt they looked bulky considering first fret notes and room for your bar or steel. The slender build of the Charlie's looks much more usable as does the ease of fitment.
I use the Beard Wave daily and have found it really quite good. Intonation is great it's easy to fit and fairly slender. It allows access to the first fret easily and it's robust. Higher end price though.
Best RP

I've gone ahead and ordered the Woodshed so I'll post a product review as and when. (Mind you I won't have anything to compare it with--this Weissenborn lark is all new to me).

Hi Michael, I have a GM and it really is great, I only use it on the weissenborn guitars and very occassionally on the dobro. For all of my lapsteel on my tricones I just rely on being quick on movement and maths!

As promised here's my thoughts on the Woodshed capo. Firstly ***** for speed of delivery.Only ordered it yesterday lunchtime and it popped through my letterbox this morning very well packaged. Really quick to fit, around five seconds (two hands needed).Comes off in around 3 seconds using just the left hand so no fiddling around if performing live. No retuning needed when fitted to second or third fret but slight detuning of 6th string needed when fitted to fifth fret.(G when guitar is tuned to open D) No negative effect on intonation and tone ALMOST as bright as open strings. Though obviously a floating capo you'd need to be the John Bonham of lap steel to make it hit the fretboard. It will work at any action height down to app.5mm. As RP Sayles suggested it is awkward getting to the first fret if your playing a fast piece but at the soporific pace I'm playing (the Anderwood really lends itself to soporificness) there's plenty of time to lift the 3rd. and pinkie fingers above the capo. Only capo I've tried but at £22.50 inc. delivery (you also get a neat little hessian bag for storage) you can't go wrong IMHO. So four and a half stars out of five from me and only the first fret issue preventing the full five but I suspect this capo is still evolving. Hope I've helped any forum members thinking of making a purchase and trust this review doesn't infringe the no advertising policy Michael.
