Referring to the OP, I was once told by a medical man that the 2nd and 3rd finger share a tendon so they can’t work independently in the same way as the 1st and 4th. Another reason why I like the pinky, I can get the slide right out of the way when I’m fingering chords.

I use mole skin and recently I've been supplementing my Diamond and my daddyslide with a silicasounds slide that has a tapered inside, Charley Hicks and R.J Ronquillo uses them, I didn't like mine a t first but am enjoying them - they are a bit lighter than the other two.
With bottle necks I couldn't tolerate the lip against the fingers next to it, the way it stuck out so I used double cut and then after a point I found fault with the slight irregularity of them and abandoned them altogether for the barrel shaped.
All of mine are loose, the silica gets a little finger wrap with papertowel so it's not against a hard service and the other two get moleskin inside.
Most of the slides are made for average height males and I'm about 4'11" so I am pleased with availability of quality custom made slides from Europe and the UK. I use my ring finger and have been able to make a C chord and some fingered notes but I do choose what I work on with attention to the technical demands on fingers. I have a maintenance routine for the left hand at night.
YMMV
