C'mon Ezra, we're all getting excited! Good idea to let it get aclimatized, settling into its new home I call it. Lovely looking guitar, bet you're pleased! Welcome to the forum by the way.
Best wishes to you all, John

I tuned her to Open D and played some today. No Expectations came out of this picking party. I bought $ 115 worth of slides. Glass, Porcelain and Brass. One of the brass ones worked for me today. The serial number on top of the headstock is 1293. I am speculating that this was made in 1929,1930 or 1931 But I am far from an expert.

Hi Ezra, had a look in Mark Makins book and your serial number would put your guitar at 1931. Mark mentioned in the book that 'number information of early pre-war Dobro guitars is at best sketchy.' If you're looking for glass slides Diamond Bottlenecks over here in the UK is well worth checking out. I've no affiliation, just a happy customer, along with many other forum members. I'm sure you'll be hearing from others more expert than myself but I hope my information from Marks book is helpful. Best wishes to you all, John

I am talking to them ( Ian ) about a couple of slides. So that is interesting. I got my ring finger sized and it would take a 10 to completely cover my finger. A 9 would go to my middle knuckle and that might work best for me.

Hi there !
If you are ordering a Diamond bottleneck, consider the length needed for a slide. I don’t see any need for a slide longer than the width of your fretboard. Any longer just makes it ungainly and harder to control - lots of excess weight beyond the end of your finger. I think 55mm long is as long as you should need for acoustics, including Nationals, and 50mm long for electrics. Of course, YMMV !

Snakehips, Thanks for that information. My favourite slide that I have used for the past 27 years, is 70mm long with an internal diameter of 23mm and a wall thickness of 2mm. I use the extra length, which I actually push up my finger to make it even longer, to reach the frets way beyond the body join.
