so how does the pickup stay attached the inside of the cover? In these cases: Glued! 😁

Thanks John, I realised that glue would be involved so I'm going to have to make a new wooden resonator disc so's I don't cause any further damage to my original one. Fortunately the disc is held on to the guitar body by string pressure over the bridge so no drilling and fitting is required. I take it you're using nickel strings, too?

I have only just found this thread, I have been very busy and just didn't see it.
It is good way to fit a magnetic pickup. Back in 1983/84 I did a similar thing with my M32 fiddle-edge Dobro. Before it was restored and stove enamelled blue & grey, I used it until late '84 just as it was and tried various ways of amplifying it..
One of the things I wanted was to amplify it with a magnetic pickup. So I got a cheap Schaller pickup, stripped off all the casing, wrapped it in tape and glued it to the inside of the coverplate. I didn't drill holes for the pole pieces and it worked very well. In fact in summer 1984 we used it on the Mike Cooper & Ian A. Anderson album, "The Continuous Preaching Blues". I played on five tracks using the Dobro and Mike Cooper used it to record his unique version of "Dark Was The Night...." It was never miked directly on the guitar, all the sound was captured with a mic on the Fender Pro Reverb amp that I had at the time. I forget why now, but when the guitar was restored shortly after those recording sessions, we decided to fit the pickup on the outside of the guitar body.
The idea of fitting a cheap pickup on the M32 was something I picked up from Sam Mitchell, but putting it under the coverplate was I think my own version of that idea.
During the 1980s I tried all kinds of weird, wonderful, and not so wonderful ways of amplifying National & Dobro guitars.
