Hi there !
I think I have one (or had one) as well.
I had a Beltona Tricone a few years back, for about 6months, then quickly sold it to quickly raise the cash for a half-decent price on a 1931 roundneck Style 1 Tricone. Also sold a nice 1930 Style O for the funds. I thing the serial number was T025.
Bought a replacement old, but later metal Beltona Tricone from Steve last year, serial number 109. Is that quite a high number in the list ? One of the last ?

Hi there !
Has the neck been refinished ? I didn't think they were doing sunburst finishes on the neck, WAY back when they were making mandolins, let alone Tricone mandolins !

I have no intention of putting it on ebay. You want it, you know how to contact me, as mentioned already, via PM.

Don’t worry about the solder seam split. NRP did an amazing job with 376 De Lux tricone resoldering a split across the edge where the tailpiece sits over. You can hardly see anything was done unless you look close.

I think we did get a fish supper when we were there but I wasn’t overly impressed when I had been told it was the best. Plus, they didn’t do “Salt’n’Sauce” there, ha ha !!!

Turns out that maybe I posted my last two posts here, on the wrong thread ?? Perhaps should have been on the bizarre thread ??

Hi again !
Prof Scratchy tells this one better than me BUT we had an acoustic blues trio gig in Banbury, Oxfordshire, I think it was (circa 20yrs ago).
As we were setting up our instruments and PA system, the pub started to fill up with a big group of guys. As they got their first round of drinks and sat down at some tables, they took off their jackets, to reveal they all had matching T-Shirts, with “Robert Johnson” on the backs.
Should be a good crowd, we thought.
Just before we started playing, the Prof went up to one of them, the only one not wearing a Robert Johnson T-Shirt. He asked them if they were here for the blues festival and fans of Robert Johnson. He said he didn’t like blues but HIS name was Robert Johnson, and he and HIS employees from his own local butcher shop were just here for a pint before going home.
So they finished their pints, and left the pub, before we had even played a note !

Hi there !
Prof Scratchy and I did a duo gig in Arbroath, Scotland, WAY back about 10-15yrs ago.
Turns out it was the very day/night that the smoking ban in public places (including inside pubs) in Scotland started.
There were two people in the audience the whole night. The town was dead, no one in pubs anywhere around. Really spooky.
The manager came up to us and said we might as well finish early - so play just one more tune, then finish up, and we’d still get paid in full.
Half way through this last song, three young gentlemen in shell suits appeared and started dancing in front of us, like they were at a rave, for the rest of the song. Double spooky/weird !!
Was glad to get out of that place !!!

Hi helly7,
After I put my post in, I only came to my senses that I was kind of hijacking resorobbie’s thread. Didn’t mean to be cheeky.
No replies from him since December though, so maybe it’s fair game now ?
I honestly do not remember how much these things cost to buy. Might have been as much as £150. Must do an online search. I’d ask for half of whatever the brand new price is, plus shipping, of that sounds fair. PM me and I’ll send some photos.

Hi again !
I liked the studs tailpiece - for when re-stringing. When winding the string around the tuner post, the ball end can annoyingly fall out of standard National tailpieces but doesn’t on the studs tailpiece.

Hi there !
Acanthus engraved squareneck serial no. 376 De Lux, has a German Silver well. Definitely not steel (as magnet doesn’t stick) and when I was scraping off old glue from the well, as it had an old brown paper gasket glued to it, I was seeing dull/shiny grey colour, not yellow brass.

Hi there !
One time I was in Dave King’s workshop in his back garden, I think, circa late 2002, or early 2003, I think. He had a GOLD-plated Tricone he was building, for I think he said a local Police Chief, or something. I think I have a photo of the body with neck on, but no cones or coverplate. I’ll look for the photo. This was when he was making me a Baritone neck for an ex-bakelite necked Triolian. I was in Windsor one day a monthly for a Dental course, and would phone him to check on it’s progress - and he’d say it was nearly finished - and then I asked if I could pop round in an hour, to find he only had a pencil sketch of a neck outline, on a slab of wood, which he possibly did in the hour it took me to get there !! But you can’t rush quality !!!

Hi again !
I was just copying the movie still photo on my PC to send to someone - and noticed the file name includes the words "... with his National Tri-cone deep body guitar" - so it's not just me who has thought it has a deep body !
