Will do Mchadl. Thank you. Is it likely that adding relief can change the intonation in an appreciable way? Jody

Thx coach. My first comment wasn't cleat and the relief was too low. I had a hex key that fit, tweaked it a bit and its playing much better today. Best...

The MM28 arrived yesterday (2 hours before the buyer came to pick up my National) and it is a great guitar! Much lighter and smaller than the National and for sure a bluesier sound. I had to tweak the relief / action a bit for slide and it needs a .15 in place of the .13 but it's barely been out of my hands. I may need a 12-step program - because I'm definitely addicted to slide! Thx guys...

I'm new to the forum, from NH USA and I've been playing guitar for 50 years and slide for about one. I posted this on another thread but think it should have been here. I just got my MM Blues 28 this afternoon from a guy named Eric Meyer from Illinois, US. It was strung w D'Addario EJ12's, 80/20 (56-13) and they were definitely bright and twangy. I switched them out for EJ 17s (56-13) PBs and it sounds a lot deeper and warmer. Will switch the 13 for a 15 as soon as I can get it.
Now I need to raise the action which just way too low for slide. What is the correct size Allen wrench (assuming that's what it is. I haven't checked the truss rod yet) for the MM Blues 28? I've raised the nut on a few guitars before but figure the truss rod is where to start. Very very slowly. Anybody with other thoughts / suggestions? Thanks!

Hi 5slide, What gauge strings do you have on your Washburn? I just picked up a 1969 O size Harmony, birch, ladder braced, 24 inch scale and it sounds a bit thin w lights on it - even with a .14 on the high e string. But I'm not sure if it will handle mediums. Thx Jodygc50 Hi there, I don't actually have that Washburn any more (I miss it though), I believe I had 12 gauge pb strings on there but could be wrong. I use 12's on most of my acoustics, except my reso which I tend to stick with 13's. Hi - Thanks for the info - I'm going to try mediums and keep a careful watch on the bridge and the top for bellying. Though I may not have this one long myself - I've got a 2016 MM Blues 28 arriving tomorrow and am thinking that will occupy my time for the near future. I do enjoy your slide playing.

You might like Denny Earnest on YT. He has a recent vid with a few lesson licks in Open D. Have fun!
