Hi jtinman and welcome,
So much scope I'd suggest putting 'old time slide guitar' or similar in the Youtube searchbox. Best of luck--you're in the right place.

Hello jtinman, I echo your sentiment regarding this place...
Statesboro Blues comes to mind. I believe listening to different recordings of it can give a good idea of the range of interpretations that some of these old tunes lend themselves to.
Cheers, Jeff

When I hear a song I'd like to work on, I go to Amazon music (not a fan of I-Tunes) and search the title. I'll listen to as many samples aa I can find and buy the ones that sound interesting. It's a great way to learn licks and even entire songs.
You should definitely check out the 100+ page thread entitled "What Are You Listening To?". Lotsa great stuff in there.

I think that finding someone who can play, and has already been through some of the learning experience is a good way to go. Go to local blues gigs and talk to the band, one of them may have an interest in country blues and slide, (they will love to show-off their skills) You may live close to a forum member who could help, have a look at the members map which gives approx. locations .
PT There are also workshops at guitar festivals and dedicated Blues Weekends (MM runs one each autumn in the North on England)

You might like Denny Earnest on YT. He has a recent vid with a few lesson licks in Open D. Have fun!
