learning note for note is a place to start, but you can bet thet BWJ never played it the same way twice. Nice shot.

Not blues but gospel, the Rev Pearly Brown played Dobro on his Testament recording.

I have a 1994 Style 0 from the last batch without a truss rod. The action is as it was the day I got it. Baseball bat neck but very comfortable to play. I don’t have large hands. My recollection of the radio tone was that it sounded very good, not quite as smooth as the Islander which was around also at the time.

This one is really interesting, accompaniment in C, played out of Vasterpol, probably at D. I think he played this overhand, finding the C at the 10th fret. Other opinions welcome. I don’t think it was lap style.

We may have posted before. Here’s John Lee of Alabama. He plays with a pocket knife.

Not young but there was a clear difference between each. Would have been interesting on a triplate too. I’ve not try Monel but have been using nickel for years. Apart from the sound they feel slightly softer to the touch and last longer before the tone goes than PB. As for coated strings, they sound more like old strings from the start.

Tiger cub: No need to change strings when you change tunings. Until recently I used 15-56 strings on my NRP Style 0, I’m talking 15 years of use and frequently changed from open tuning to standard at E without issue. I wouldn’t recommend tuning up to open E or A and leaving the guitar like that. A a side note, I’ve been using 12-52 for the last couple of years and this has meant that the guitar now sounds more like an old National, not a clue why.....

Phil, There will always be the occasional exception to any rule, but I think that on a public forum where people come for advice, it is safer and correct to say that plastic bridge saddles are not the thing for resonator guitars. Shine On Michael Michael, I would certainly not recommend to anyone that they fit a plastic bridge. Roger’s was fitted to a guitar he’d built himself from some scrap furniture (his profession is as a furniture restorer) and he was happy with the sound but did not propose this plastic as a general solution. It does show that there are exceptions to every rule.

On the subject of plastic bridges, I recall that Roger Hubbard had a hard nylon bridge in his self-made reso. Sounded great. This was around 2004/5.

So hard to get the time right so that it feels like Joe. He’s hit it.

Mike should be towards lower bout F hole if you are playing into the room, alternatively try buffering playing into a boxed corner of the room ALA Robert Johnson Paramount sessions. Lee I’m in pedant mode today. Johnson did not record for Paramount, they went bust in 1932. He recorded for ARC. The corner reinforcement story is a myth perpetuated by Ry Cooder. There is absolutely no evidence that the ARC engineers would do this. They were professionals and given the sound quality from his and other sessions made the same day, knew what they were doing. Mr. Cooder also perpetuated the myth that B.Willie Johnson used a razor as a slide. Eye (sorry) witness from Willie McTell states that he used a tube slid on his finger.
